do over

Truth be told, by the time we got to Barcelona on our honeymoon, we were exhausted* and I had come down with a gnarly case of strep throat. So unfortunately, all we really saw of the city was the inside of our hotel (which was lovely) and the pharmacy that was a block away. On our last day there, we made every effort to fit in as much as possible but sadly, we missed most of it. Next time we go, I want to a) not get sick, and b) do it right. It was the city I did the least amount of research on because I figured speaking the language meant I'd have no problem knowing what to do and see. Yeah, I know, totally senseless. So, here's to going back and being just as awestruck as everyone else I know who's ever been.

*Learn from me, guys. If you're currently planning your honeymoon, make sure to NOT leave the day after your wedding. BIG MISTAKE.

  1. I have been in Barcelona for three days (though not on my honeymoon) and have had pink eye and a cold which turned into a sinus infection which moved to my ears making it hard to hear. I feel your pain. I´m hoping a get a least one day at 100%.

  3. we got married on a saturday and left for our honeymoon on monday. it was SO nice to have sunday to sleep in, digest our wedding, open some gifts (we got a LOT of cash, which was awesome to take on our trip) and hang out with our family a bit. I'd say waiting a day is excellent advice.

  4. we got married on a saturday, woke up on sunday to have brunch with everyone and then left for the airport to head to Paris. I wouldn't change a thing. I was way too overwhelmed by the emotion of the night before to go back to normal life even for a day. I needed to keep things extraordinary. Also...being so exhausted was the only way for me to sleep on the plane!

  5. we got married on sunday afternoon, sunday night stayed at a hotel near the airport, and left for jamaica monday morning at 6am. i think i would've been depressed to go back to my own disaster of an apartment, knowing that everyone i loved was in their hotel packing up to leave, or on their way home. like t bone said, keeping things extraordinary made everything magical. the weirdness of absorbing the wedding, coupled with the weirdness of being in a new place (hotel) with a new husband, was really super cool and reinforced how much of a life event it was.

my piece of advice for a honeymoon is to go to a place where your goal is to do nothing. city vacations with lots of sightseeing is so exhausting, and laying on sand gazing at your new sexy spouse reading a book is the best sight to see!

  6. We were married in September 2010 but waited until April 2011 to go on our honeymoon. I'm glad we waited.

  8. Although: Also don't stay around the day after your wedding for people to hang all over.
