Let's say you're looking to plan a small (about 3-day) family vacation with a baby that's around a year old. Driving or flying would be fine. You still have not applied for the baby's passport, so it would have to be to one of the 50 United States. Actually, something on the western side would be preferable, but you're open to anything new. Where would you go?

Portland!
ReplyDeleteHi Celia,
ReplyDeleteI would say Berkeley, CA is an amazing little gem with tons of coffee shops, restaurants, hiking and other neat things to do with baby. I don't know where you live, but it's just across the bay from San Francisco to give you an idea.
Have fun picking a place!

Portland! But that's only because I love it here. :)
ReplyDeleteI've no western suggestions- but I look forward to reading everyone elses! And babies need passports?! I had no idea..
ReplyDeleteSea Ranch
ReplyDeleteloads of different houses to rent. The Beach, trails, whales and seals if your lucky, (we saw seals they even swam closer to us to get a better look. Cute!)
It's incredibly beautiful and there is lodge where you can grab a bite to eat or just cook at home.

Route 1, scenic Route 1. Beautiful. And the redwoods, yes.
ReplyDeleteCelia, your "about me" needs a little updating. I thought you were in the Oakland area, but I wasn't sure, and when I checked I noticed there was no mention of Lucia!
ReplyDeleteHave you done a roadtrip down to San Luis Obispo? I went to college there and that area is so pretty. You could drive down the One and stay in Big Sur for a night on the way. Although maybe road trips and babies don't go together too well.
i hear new mexico is magic.

Sundance for snow. Palm Springs for sun.
ReplyDeleteThe whole baby part throws me off but I'd pick Wyoming. Specifically, the Wind River range. There isn't a lot of *stuff* but that is kind of the point.
ReplyDeleteArizona ;) You can stay here.
ReplyDeleteUtah.
ReplyDeleteSeattle, Portland, Monterey, Big Sur, Grand Canyon, Austin, Texas (not really the west but not too far.)
ReplyDeleteYellowstone in the winter! It is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteCan I just say I don't recommend the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs on a weekend. It's extremely baby and dog friendly, but waaaaaay to drunk crazy people friendly also. Last week there were several babies in the jacuzzi, along with two smokers and one guy who fell in cause he was drunk. It just wasn't the relaxing vacay I was hoping for, but during the week it's quite nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm forever in love with Ojai which is also close to Santa Barbara and any of the coast if you're doing a road trip. I have tons of eating, sleeping and other tips for both places if you need em!
have you heard of this place: http://www.hicksville.com/
ReplyDeleteit looks so awesome and it's on the west coast!

thanks for all your suggestions, guys! we have a lot to consider, but are determined to start a family vacation tradition this year. i was hoping to get out of california since i'm from LA, we got married just north of santa barbara, and we live in the bay area, but there really are just so many cool spots here. i'll let you all know once we make the final decision. :)
ReplyDeleteooh... Marfa and Austin. No nevermind. 3 days does not equal 2 cities.
