I've decided to once and for all grow out my bangs. I don't know who you guys think I am, but if I'm going to spend all this time focussing on my skin, then other things are going to have to be sacrificed. All jokes aside, I really am just so tired of keeping up with my fringe. My hair grows at an absurdly fast rate, and seeing as I don't even have time to update my "About" page (as quite a few of you have noted by this point*) these days, I most certainly do not have the time to be getting bang trims once a month. Which means, they are out of here.
Now, here's why I am actually writing this post: WHERE CAN I FIND RAD BARRETTES? These bangs have gotten to the point of total mayhem. They are no longer cute if I try to still style them as bangs, but ohmygod somebody please get them off of my face PRONTO. I figured an easy solution would be to clip them back with some awesome barrettes until I can pass this awkward stage. You know, something a little more interesting than just plain bobby pins. Problem is, finding a super rad, awesome barrette (yes, even just one) seems to be an impossible task. Is this a universal problem? Am I looking in the wrong places? Is the new barrette criteria that they must all be made of felt or some sort of sparkly material... or be a flower or a bow... or even worse, a MUSTACHE? Do people really want to wear mustaches on their heads? It's all so perplexing to me. Please, weigh in.
And on that note, Marc, I really love you and all, but I don't exactly feel the need to be rocking YOUR NAME in my hair. Jackass.

Lady, I just use bobby pins. (I'm growing mine out, too. I always seem to forget I have a damn cowlick in the front of my head. Then I cut bangs, and THERE IT IS).
ReplyDeleteI grew out my bangs for a year, leading up to my wedding. My first order of business, upon returning from our honeymoon, was to get bangs again, ha. I just love 'em. That being said, I'd hit up Target. Cheap. Convenient. You're already there for toilet paper. Etc. Also: I kinda like these "bundles" - scarf, headband, barrette. Options! (It says, "not sold in stores," but I've seen 'em at my local Target!) Good luck with the bang-growing-out-process! xo.
ReplyDeleteMustache barrettes actually exist? This has gotten completely out of hand.
ReplyDeleteI used to use the simple hair barrettes you can get for real cheap at drug stores. They are a little better looking than bobby pins, but not obnoxious and cutesy. Example: http://www.soap.com/p/scunci-barrettes-259359
Etsy is actually a good site for cute hair clips. Some with metal charms, if you're into that.
ReplyDeleteI saw a post on Pinterest about painting normal bobby pins with nailpolish.

I'm with Naurnie, I use bobby pins, too (I keep my bangs at a perpetually growing-out length for some reason)
ReplyDeleteLots of the time I'll either do a tiny french braid or a little twist down my hairline and pin it at my temple
I like these: http://tiny.cc/rdtw6
ReplyDeleteI like using old lady, clip-on earrings, but I usually just have bobby pins in my pockets so I use them.
ReplyDeleteJapan town or japanese stores.
ReplyDeleteTry Etsy! Or kinda braid it to the side?
ReplyDeleteYou can also twist it to the side.
ReplyDeletei really loved the missoni bobby pins at target; now that prices have calmed down again, you could score some of those. love megan's mention of painting regular bobby pins with nail polish, and the braiding idea, too - that's what i did when i didn't want to wear The Flop as a flop.
ReplyDeleteCheck these out. Just saw them this morning. http://www.anthropologie.com/anthro/catalog/productdetail.jsp?navAction=jump&id=24054967&parentid=SEARCH_RESULTS&color=007
ReplyDeleteI've seen tortoise-shell barrettes at H&M and J. Crew. Not sure if you're into that look, but if so...
ReplyDeleteAlso. I too am growing out my bangs (that I've had since high school), so I feel your pain. My go-to for getting them to cooperate and get the eff off of my face has been hairspray, but I know most people hate the stuff. This marks the umpteenth time that I've tried to grow them out, but I'm hoping it will be the first time that I actually succeed.
Anabela of Fieldguided just did an "in my bag" poste that features some cute barrettes, maybe that could help?
ReplyDelete@amy w THOSE ARE EXACTLY THE KIND OF BARRETTES I'M LOOKING FOR!!
ReplyDeleteMimco is my favourite store for accessories.

When I was growing out my fringe (sorry bangs sounds funny to me, I'm Aussie) I ended up braiding it everyday to keep it off my face. I'm so happy now I can tie all my hair up, no pins, no braiding required!
