the unexpected

Are there looks or styles you admire on other people but feel like you could never pull off? For years, I've wanted to rock the socks with heels or wedges look, but have been mortified at myself in the mirror any time I've attempted it. Seeing as I rarely wear socks and the last time I wore a shoe that wasn't flat was at my wedding, I'm not exactly sure why I'm so fond of this trend. Maybe because Eleonora Carisi makes it look so effortless? Or, maybe because I like how socks can make a girl in heels seem more approachable, and not so sex vixen-y? I am not AT ALL sex vixen-y. Whatever the case, I'm not giving up on socks with pumps. Maybe it's like red lipstick. Once you've tried it enough times, you start to like yourself in it... well, at least enough to go out in public.

  1. I don't think it is the socks and heels that will make this work or not. It is what's above the socks.

    1. If I meant boobs I would have said something about yellow cake batter. Also, you are to spell boobs, bewbs.

I was referring to the clothing, both examples are reserved and it works. I don't think some slutty get-up would work with socks.

  2. I feel like I would fall out of the shoe because the socks would make me slip. I did, however, think that I would never wear skinny jeans and now I'm all over that shit. I feel like I always embrace a trend when it is on the way out.

  3. I like the look too, but I've never tried it. I think I like it because it's the contrast between girlish and grown up, with a whole lot of assertive, brave and quirky thrown in. It's probably not the kind of fashion statement most men would appreciate - it's one quirky smart girl to another.

  4. Rocked it the other night for the first time. It was quite fun and might I add that it made it possible for me to walk all over the city and not have sore tootsies.

p.s. I'm pretty sure with a full skirt and the right shoes you could totally pull it off.

  6. idk- my legs are kinda short and they're not bean poles. I love the look too but I wonder if it only looks good on long, skinny legs.

    1. my legs are like that, too. i think the right length skirt is key, though. also, won't the height of the shoe give the appearance of a longer leg? maybe not? wtf do i know?

  7. I have recently started wearing socks with my heels. And I love it. As far as making it harder to walk because of the slip factor, I found they made wearing heels more comfy. But like Rob said, it does matter what is being worn with it. I like a slightly longer skirt/dress (like in the pictures you posted) or skinny jeans that are rolled once or twice.

  9. My trouble has been finding the right socks, but I'm convinced that the look is a win.

  10. I love the look on the left but sadly don't need to be drawing any attention to my ankles and calves. I would definitely go for it otherwise.
