Now that I have a Cheech, my lifestyle has changed drastically. Gone are the days of bar hopping and sleeping in, and waiting until I'm down to my last pair of underwear before I even consider doing some laundry. And although I don't exactly miss those days anyway (actually, I do miss the sleeping in A LOT), I don't want to be one of those people who trades in having any sort of life at all just because I'm a mom. For one, I have way too many interests to just sacrifice them all, and I also want to encourage my kid to find her own interests and to be excited about them. So Cheech and I, we've sort of created our own kind of nightlife that starts and ends a little earlier and gives us something to do while Joe is at work. We go for early evening strolls, we hang out at Happy Hours, we go to dinner and try new foods, and sometimes we'll grab some sorbet. Occasionally we'll meet up with friends, but for the most part it's just the two of us. I like to think of these little outings as our "date night"... time for us to hang out and just be pals.
This past Friday, after weeks of driving by Bites off Broadway and thinking to myself, "We have GOT to go to that", I strapped Cheech in her stroller and we finally made an appearance. For those of you who don't live in Oakland, it's basically a small gathering of local food trucks with lots of Oakland families hanging out on a large grassy field. And there are hula hoops. We shared a crab cake burger from Le Truc and had the best time. I think our Friday night dates are set from here on out.

you are so adorable! i like to take harper out on little adventures via the subway: window shopping, visiting vivek during his lunch hour, getting coffee... and i, too, like to think of her as my little pal. we spend A LOT of time together. i love having a daughter. it's the best.
